USPTO Technology Center Deep Dive: A Look at TC 2800

Written by Parker Brogdon | 9/21/20 10:36 PM

Technology Center 2800 handles a wide range of electrical technologies, including semiconductors, circuits, optics, and printing.

TC 2800 is the busiest technology center at the USPTO in terms of filings and it has the highest allowance rate of all utility patent technology centers. As the technology center that handles computer-related technologies, Alice rejections are a common issue for applicants. But examiners in TC 2800 issue far fewer Alice rejections than their peers in notoriously Alice-prone TC 3600, and the allowance rate for applications that receive Alice rejections in TC 2800 is considerably higher. Thus, while patent prosecution can never be considered “easy,” there are notably fewer barriers to allowance in TC 2800 than elsewhere at the USPTO.
