Innovation has always been a cornerstone of American society. With Independence Day looming just around the corner, we wanted to take some time to recognize some of our favorite patriotic patents. Whether you’re hosting a barbeque, headed out for a Fourth of July concert, or anxiously awaiting your hometown’s fireworks display, take a few minutes to join us in saluting the innovative American way by recognizing our six favorite Independence Day patents.

1. Dry apply and/or peel away temporary body decals

To really get yourself in the patriotic mood and set the tone for the day, may we suggest inventor Douglas Marshall's American flag temporary body decals? These fun and festive additions to any outfit are sure to not only inspire patriotism in the wearer but also in all those around. It is practically impossible to wear an entire American flag on your face without being filled with pride in your country. Make sure to stock up – these are sure to be a favorite party accessory! 

2. Backyard baseball game

Speaking of parties, the long summer days surrounding the Fourth of July mean extra daylight and you do not want to be caught without sufficient entertainment to keep your guests busy until dark. 4. Fireworks

Any discussion of Fourth of July themed patents would be lacking without at least a mention of fireworks. These fun, festive displays are simply bursting with patriotic pride. Firework lovers across the nation can thank inventor Gioiosa Joseph for improving upon these tried and true crowd pleasers. Gioiosa’s 1930 improvements mean that we can more confidently shoot off these displays of American pride without fear of losing limbs. Safety first! 

5. Combined folding chair and flag pole support

The first of two flag pole patents we are rounding out our discussion with today (it is an Independence Day article after all) is this handy chair/flag pole combo. Whether you are relaxing at the lake or headed to a firework display, this is a must-have lounge accessory. For Fourth of July displays of patriotism, you simply cannot beat attaching an American flag to your chair. 6. Mechanically-waved flag

Our last Independence Day inspired patent to make this list is inventor James D. Houston’s “mechanically-waved flag.” No matter what you end up doing this Fourth of July, showing your American pride is easy when you can simply set up a patriotic display in your front yard.
